Former President Bill Clinton was widely slammed earlier this week for saying that he does not owe Monica Lewinsky an apology for their scandal. Now, he has dug his hole even deeper by defending disgraced former Minnesota Senator Al Franken about the sexual misconduct claims that forced him to resign at the end of 2017.

“Well, in general, I think it’s a good thing, yes,” Clinton said of the Me Too Movement, according to Town Hall. However, Clinton went on to defend Franken and question the legitimacy of some of the accusations against him.

“I will be honest,” he said, “the Franken case, for me, was a difficult case, a hard case.”

Clinton mentioned support Franken received from women at ‘Saturday Night Live’ and called the first accusations, from radio anchor Leann Tweeden, “fantastic.”

“There may be things I don’t know. But maybe I’m just an old-fashioned person, but it seemed to me that there were 29 women on ‘Saturday Night Live’ that put out a statement for him, and that the first and most fantastic story was called, I believe, into question,” he said.

Clinton said this despite the fact that Tweeden provided photographic evidence of former Sen. Franken groping her as she slept.

“Too late to wade into it now,” Clinton concluded of the incident, adding that it is a “grievous thing” to remove an elected official from office.

“I mean, I think it’s a grievous thing to take away from the people a decision they have made, especially when there is an election coming up again,” he said. “But it’s done now.”

This came after Clinton came unhinged during an interview with NBC in which he was asked about the Lewinsky scandal. Clinton said that “a lot of the facts have been conveniently omitted” in an effort to make his scandal “work” in the context of current social activism aimed at addressing sexual misconduct.

“I dealt with it 20 years ago,” he said. “And the American people, two-thirds of them, stayed with me. And I’ve tried to do a good job since then with my life and with my work. That’s all I have to say to you.”
